Working with individuals from numerous professional and social backgrounds, this team-oriented role provides horticultural support and maintenance of outdoor, city-owned green spaces.
The mission is to provide safe, professionally maintained, and aesthetically attractive parks and public spaces.
This position additionally enhances the quality of life and value of O'Fallon as a place to live and visit, while it is not a customer facing job, the public interactions are positive as they appreciate the beautification of their community.
While desirable, specific landscaping skills are not a requirement to be considered for this job.
On-the-job training for all tasks is provided if the individual is willing to learn new skills, approaches them with a positive attitude and enjoys working outdoors daily.
This is a seasonal position but boasts a stable and flexible work schedule from March through November.
Additionally, the position offers the opportunity to learn a set of skills that is transferable into daily life.
Pay Scale:
$18 - $19/hour Essential Duties Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Plant installations, pruning, deadheading, mulching, weeding, edging, tilling, raking, watering, digging, brush removal, invasive species removal, and other manual tasks.
Manual labor includes lifting heavy materials, bending, stooping, twisting, standing/walking movement for extended periods of time, kneeling and pushing.
Special protocols are implemented to lessen the need to work in adverse weather conditions, although at times working in the heat and the rain is needed.
Operating equipment such as park vehicles with trailers, bed edger, sod cutter, weed trimmer and hand tools.
Training is provided for all equipment use.
Requires 18 years of age or older.
Must have an email address to receive work correspondence.
Have a checking or savings account to receive electronic paycheck deposit.
Valid & current driver's license.
Ability to work staggered shift assignments as necessary which would include weekends 1-2 times per month May through October Reliability and dependability.
Strong work ethic.
Can stay busy and productive.
Can follow instructions.
Be willing to learn new skills.
Work well with others in a diverse team environment.
Physical Requirements Ability to walk, run, stand, and sit and complete a variety of motor skills.
Ability to lift and carry 30-70 pounds regularly.
Ability to hear and see well.
Work in an outdoor environment.
