Vehicle Description Gateway Classic Cars of Philadelphia is presenting a 1979 Chevrolet El Camino for sale.
The El Camino was General Motors answer to the Ford Ranchero.
It only lasted two years but it was rereleased just two years later and had a run that lasted until 1987.
This 1979 El Camino is Blue with a Blue interior as well.
By 1979 The El Camino had evolved into a very cool car that no longer had the performance available that made it a winner since its introduction.
Smog controls and government regulations had taken what was once a street performance vehicle and turned it into a low HP grocery hauler.
The solution to this was to transplant a proven performance drivetrain to convert any El Camino into a street beast.
That is what we have here.
The heartbeat of this El Camino is a 383 CI Stroker engine with an Eagle steel crankshaft, Steel Pro Comp rods, with 9 to 1 compression.
World SR rods and Centerline comp Cam lifters.
A new Harmonic balancer.
This engine has been dyno tuned to 388 HP to the wheels and 430 at the crank.
The transmission is a 350 Turbo automatic with a shift kit.
It also has a new 1800 - 2000 RPM stall converter, and a Posi rear with 2:
73 gears.
A B&M floor shifter has been added, converting from a column shifter.
Every bolt and bushing has been replaced and the undercarriage has been painted.
A new gas tank was also added.
The interior features new seats and rugs with El Camino Mats.
The exhaust is new, and it includes a set of cutouts.
