In the mid 1960's the muscle car crazy was everywhere.
Pontiac had a real hit on their hands with the GTO and the other GM siblings all wanted a piece of the action.
Chevrolet offered the Chevelle SS, Oldsmobile had the 442 and the boys over the Buick the Gran Sport based on the A-body Skylark platform.
After the initial success of the Gran Sport in 1965 & 1966 the GS badge could be seen on other Buick models like the Wildcat and Rivera and these vehicles would be appointed with strongest and more powerful engines Buick had to offer at the time.
The bright red GS badge was a not-so-subtle way to show that Buick meant business and were making a very strong mark in the muscle car market.
